Pakistani military kills eight individuals amid uptick in violent attacks

The Pakistani military has conducted significant “intelligence-based operations” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the weekend, killing eight individuals in two separate incidents. The military claims the deceased were involved in violent activities.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday, the operations were carried out in the Bannu and Khyber districts. Two military personnel also lost their lives during the operations.

These actions come amid an uptick in violent attacks across the country. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reveals at least 71 attacks by armed groups in November, predominantly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security forces have reported the deaths of 127 fighters in these incidents.

Meanwhile, a ceasefire has been brokered between two tribes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district following nearly two weeks of deadly clashes. The violence, which began on November 22, erupted after an attack on a convoy near Parachinar that left 47 Shia Muslims martyred. The toll later climbed to 57 as some of the injured succumbed to their wounds.
