Grand Ayatollah Shirazi affirms right to protest, citing Imam Ali’s legacy of free expression
The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, underscored that the right to protest is a fundamental freedom that should be accessible to everyone, allowing people to express their demands without restrictions.
The Grand Marja referenced Imam Ali’s example during early Islamic history, highlighting that Imam Ali, peace be upon him, granted people the right to freely express opinions and demand their rights, even if those demands were unjust.
He stressed that Imam Ali’s approach provides a model, especially for Muslim leaders, to uphold justice and human rights, urging leaders, particularly in Islamic countries, to commit to justice as a core principle of governance, emphasizing its importance for societal stability and divine accountability.
In his ongoing lectures and discussions with scholars, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi consistently emphasizes justice and freedom of expression as essential for governance that ensures public welfare.
