Unique Quranic manuscripts, rare art pieces shine at Sotheby’s Islamic Art Auction in London

Sotheby’s will host an auction on Wednesday, October 23rd, featuring a remarkable collection of Islamic art, including two rare and significant Quranic manuscripts..

One of the highlights is a Quranic manuscript attributed to the renowned calligrapher Yaqut Al-Musta’simi from Baghdad, dating back to 1275-1276 CE. This manuscript, one of the few reliably attributed to the master, is expected to fetch between £600,000 and £800,000.

Another significant piece is a Quran manuscript by Abdullah bin Hafiz Muhammad Al-Shirazi from 1527 CE, valued between £200,000 and £300,000.

The auction will also feature a stunning 8th-century bronze gazelle from Iraq, signed by its maker Abdullah bin Thabit, valued at £2 to £3 million, and a beautifully decorated 13th-century ceramic jug priced between £100,000 and £150,000.

These rare items showcase the rich heritage of Islamic art and the diverse cultures that influenced the region’s history.
