UK government explores potential of offering weight loss injections

The UK government is exploring the potential of offering weight loss injections, such as Mounjaro, to unemployed people with obesity to help them lose weight and return to work, the BBC reported.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Health Secretary Wes Streeting both emphasized the health and economic benefits, with Streeting noting that obesity costs the NHS £11 billion a year and leads to increased sick days.

While some experts warn about the challenges of scaling the program, NHS officials are planning a trial in Greater Manchester.
