TikTok faces new lawsuits over alleged harm to youth across US
Thirteen U.S. states and the District of Columbia have filed lawsuits against TikTok, accusing the platform of harming young users and failing to provide adequate protection, Reuters reported.
Filed in New York, California, D.C., and 11 other states, the lawsuits claim TikTok employs addictive software to maximize screen time for children, boosting profits through targeted ads.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James criticized TikTok for contributing to social media addiction and negatively affecting youth mental health.
TikTok, which disputes the claims, said it offers safety features for minors and expressed disappointment at the legal action.
