China unveils new spacesuit for 2030 moon landing mission
China has revealed a new spacesuit designed for its upcoming moon landing mission, set for 2030. The red-and-white suit, unveiled by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), is built to endure extreme lunar temperatures, radiation, and dust while offering flexibility for astronauts, the CNN reported citing state media.
The suit includes a long and short-range camera, an operations console, and a glare-proof visor. Chinese astronauts Zhai Zhigang and Wang Yaping demonstrated its capabilities in a video.
The spacesuit marks a significant advancement in China’s space program, positioning the country to become the second nation to land astronauts on the moon, following its successful robotic lunar missions.
This development comes amid increasing global competition in space exploration, with the U.S. also planning a crewed moon landing by 2026. China’s space ambitions include establishing an international lunar research station by 2040.
The design of the suit draws inspiration from traditional Chinese art, symbolizing strength and beauty, while ensuring astronauts are protected in the harsh lunar environment.
