Significant archaeological sites discovered near Iraqi-Iranian border

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior’s Agency for Maysan Police Affairs announced Thursday the discovery of significant archaeological sites and over 400 vertical wells from the early first millennium AD near the Iraqi-Iranian border.

This finding was made during routine field surveys aimed at protecting registered sites from theft and damage.

According to news outlets, a delegation from the Prime Minister’s Office visited the site to assess the situation and recommend further surveying and registration efforts.
