The Iraqi Border Forces Command confirmed on Sunday its readiness to deal with any attempts to infiltrate the border from the Syrian side, highlighting the significant role of thermal cameras in securing the borders between the two countries.
The Commander of the Border Forces, Lieutenant General Mohammed Saker, said in a press statement followed by Shia Waves Agency, “The importance of the Syrian border for us is concentrated in the area between Al-Qaim and Rabia, which stretches over more than 300 kilometers.”
“We have established substantial successive fortifications there, the most important of which is the concrete wall project that has reached 180 kilometers. This is a major and significant achievement that contributes to securing the border”, Saker added.
In June 2014, ISIS terrorists seized control of Mosul, Iraq’s second city, killing and displacing hundreds of thousands of civilians. In December 2016, the military activity, known as the liberation campaign, began in east Mosul, concluding in west Mosul in June 2017.
