Italy bans use of smartphones in schools to enhance writing skills

The Italian government has issued a decision to ban mobile phones inside classrooms for the new school year.

The measure was introduced by the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, from the nationalist League party, aiming to prevent the use of mobile phones in schools, including for teaching purposes. Tablets and computers can still be used with the approval of teachers.

The decision to ban mobile phones aims to improve student behavior and encourage students to enhance their handwriting skills.

Valditara also announced the reintroduction of the “school planner,” which requires students to write their tasks by hand, allowing parents to follow their children’s education, adding, “We need to get our children to hold paper and pen again.”
