Muslim migrant fishermen in Taiwan demand reopening of prayer room

Muslim migrant fishermen, residing in Taiwan, have demanded the reopening of a prayer room in New Taipei City’s Xiaguzi Fishing Port as Ramadan is approaching.

According to Radio Taiwan International (Rti), the prayer room would serve the needs of those of all religious beliefs in the fishing industry, qouting some workers as saying that the prayer room has not been open for use since its unveiling last April.

Rerum Novarum Center Social Work Supervisor Lee Cheng-shin stressed the importance of the prayer room, saying that spiritual support through religion can reduce issues such as alcoholism and work delay.
