UN Rights Council Demands End to Myanmar Crisis

The UN Human Rights Council is urging an immediate end to violence and human rights abuses in Myanmar. A recently passed resolution expresses deep concern over the ongoing crisis, highlighting widespread abuses by both the military and opposition groups, the organization’s website reported.

The resolution specifically calls for the protection of the Rohingya Muslim community, who have faced brutal violence in recent years. It demands Myanmar ensure human rights for all its people, eliminate statelessness for minorities, and tackle the root causes of the conflict.

The Council emphasizes the need for credible international investigations into human rights abuses and accountability for perpetrators. It also calls for an end to hate speech targeting minorities and an easing of internet restrictions, particularly in Rakhine state.

The resolution comes amidst ongoing reports of violence against civilians, including the Rohingya. The Council expresses concern about the conflict spilling over into neighboring countries and urges all parties to engage in an inclusive national dialogue involving all ethnic groups and civil society.
