A magnitude-6.3 earthquake occurred in Indonesia’s Papua Province at around 02:16 Dec. 31, Crisis24 reported today.
According to the alert website, the epicenter was about 147 km west-southwest of Abepura, Indonesia, with the tremor occurring at a depth of about 39 km.
Strong shaking was probably felt in areas near the epicenter, with light-to-moderate shaking likely felt in other parts of the island of New Guinea. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
