Landslide, flash floods leave at least 19 dead, 7 missing in Indonesia’s Sumatra island

Torrential rains in Indonesia’s Sumatra island triggered flash floods and a landslide, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 people with seven others missing, the Associate Press reported.

According to a statement by the disaster management agency, tons of mud, rocks, and uprooted trees caused devastation in Pesisir Selatan district of West Sumatra province.

It said more than 80,000 people had fled to temporary government shelters after the flood and landslide buried 14 houses, while 20,000 houses were flooded up to the roof in nine districts and cities in West Sumatra province.
