According to the United Nations’ data released on Wednesday, India is set to outnumber China as the world’s most populous nation, with almost 3 million more people by the middle of 2023.
The “State of World Population Report” for 2023, launched by UN Population Fund’s (UNFPA), said, based on their data, that India’s population by mid-year will reach 1.4286 billion, compared to China’s 1.4257 billion — 2.9 million fewer.
The UN report added that China and India together will account for more than a third of the estimated global population, which is expected to reach 8.045 billion by the middle of the year.
