Muslim Boy Assaulted in Kanpur for Refusing to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

A 13-year-old Muslim boy was allegedly attacked by three minors in the Maharajpur area late Thursday night after he refused to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” Clarion reported. The incident took place near the boy’s residence in Sarsaul, under Maharajpur police jurisdiction.
According to the victim, the accused, accompanied by two others, stopped him on his way to the bus stop and demanded that he bow down and touch their feet. When he refused, they insisted he chant “Jai Shri Ram.” Upon continued refusal, one of the accused broke a bottle and stabbed the boy’s left leg with the broken glass.
The injured child returned home bleeding and informed his family. His grandfather filed a complaint at the local police station, prompting authorities to register a case. The boy also reported facing repeated hate crimes in the locality.
ACP Sumit Ramtek of Chakeri confirmed that investigations are ongoing under relevant sections of the law.
