Supreme Court Halts Demolition of Kushinagar Mosque, Issues Contempt Notice

The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to Uttar Pradesh officials regarding the recent demolition of the Madni Mosque in Kushinagar, Muslim Mirror reported.
This action follows a petition claiming the demolition violated a November 2024 ruling that prohibited demolitions without prior notice and hearings. The court has demanded a response from the state government within two weeks and ordered an immediate halt to any further demolition activities.
The controversy began when a portion of the mosque was demolished on February 9, following a complaint by Hindu activist Ram Bachan Singh, who alleged it was built on encroached government land. Despite the mosque’s existence for over a decade, concerns have been raised about the legality of the demolition process.
