India Hosts First International Solar Festival to Promote Solar Energy
India launched its inaugural International Solar Festival at Bharat Mandapam, aiming to enhance global solar energy advocacy, Arab News reported yesterday.
The festival, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video from Singapore, underscores India’s leadership in the Global South in solar energy development, with capacity soaring from 20 MW to 70 GW in the past decade.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA), founded during the 2015 COP21 summit, comprises over 100 “sunshine countries” and advocates for efficient solar energy use to reduce fossil fuel dependency. Modi emphasized the need for collective discussions on green energy investments and prioritizing support for developing nations.
Some of the festival’s main highlights are how the transition to solar energy can create opportunities for youth, enable inclusivity, and empower women. The festival aims to inspire collaboration and share best practices in solar energy utilization.
