Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Shia Men Permitted to Marry Women Divorced Under Sunni Jurisprudence

Another daily scholarly session led by Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Wednesday, the 14th of Rajab, at his honourable residence in Qom. During this session, as in previous meetings, the Supreme Marja addressed questions from attendees regarding various jurisprudential issues.

In relation to certain rulings on marriage with Sunni individuals, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated that it is permissible for Shia men to marry women who have been given a three-time divorce according to Sunni jurisprudence.

His Eminence further explained that while Sunni divorces are considered invalid by Shia standards, this matter is addressed in the “Jawahir al-Kalam” due to specific narrations.
