Canada: New survey reveals number of Muslims tripled since 1996
A new survey on religion in Canada, conducted by the Statistics Canada of the Canadian Parliament, showed that the number of Muslims has tripled since the year (1996) to become the fastest growing religion in the country.
According to the Western Standard newspaper, followed by Shia Waves News Agency: “The religious scene in Canada has undergone great changes, and the number of Muslims in the country has increased continuously.”
It continued, “According to the survey of the Canadian Governmental Authority, for the period (1996 – 2019), the figures for the share of different religious groups in the total population indicated that the number of Muslims tripled from (1.1% – 3.7%).”
The newspaper added that “the number of Muslims from the two sects (Shia and Sunni) has reached (one million and 53 thousand and 945 people), which means that it has doubled during the last ten years.”
The newspaper pointed out that “the number of Muslims at the end of the year (1985) was very few, but after a few years their number increased significantly and remarkably.”
It pointed out that “68% of Canadians aged 15 years and over reported having a religious affiliation, and this did not exist in the eighties of the last century.”
Furthermore, (71%) of people stated that their religious or spiritual beliefs were very important, compared to others in past years.”
