Canada: Three Killed, Including Police Officer, in Montreal Shooting

Canadian authorities have confirmed that three people, including a police officer, a local resident, and a suspected gunman, were killed in an exchange of fire in Montreal on Monday.
Montreal police said on X that one of their officers had died while on duty, adding that further details would be released later. Authorities separately confirmed the deaths of a civilian and the suspected attacker.
Two other people were injured in the incident, including another police officer. A police spokesperson later said the injured officer’s condition was no longer life-threatening.
Investigators ruled out terrorism as a motive and said there were no other suspects in the case.
Police had earlier warned residents of an “armed and dangerous suspect” and urged the public to avoid an area in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, residents were told to stay inside their homes and lock their doors.
Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher told reporters that officers came under fire as soon as they arrived at the scene. Police later said the suspect had been “neutralized,” adding that they believed the attacker acted alone.
Media reports said the attacker may have written a statement containing hateful and inciting language linked to the so-called “incel” movement, an online subculture associated with anti-feminist and misogynistic views. Security authorities have not yet confirmed the authenticity of those reports.
