Fatimiyya mourning period based on 75-day narration begins throughout Shia world

Ahead of the 10-day Fatimiyya period, mourning Majalis have been established all over the world, particularly in Holy Shrines, Hussainiyas, and cultural centers.

The sacred Shrines of the immaculate Imams in Iraq, peace and blessings of God be upon them, have been covered with black banners and cloths, and host Majalis in commemoration of Sayyidah Fatimah, peace be upon her.

According to some narrations, the 13th of Jumadi al-Awwal marks the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra, 75 days after the martyrdom of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him and his family.

To commemorate this occasion, the 10th to the 19th of Jumadi al-Awwal has been designated as the Fatimiyya mourning period, when the Shia community recall and lament the horrible afflictions she suffered after the martyrdom of the Holy Prophet, may God bless him and his family, which eventually led to her martyrdom in the year 11 AH.

Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra, peace be upon her, was the fruit of the marriage of the Holy Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa, peace be upon him and his family, and Sayyida Khadija, peace be upon her. She was the wife of Amirul Momineen Ali bin Abi Talib, peace be upon him, and the mother of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain, Sayyida Zainab and Sayyida Umme Kulthum, peace be upon them.

According to reliable hadith, Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra, peace be upon her, possesses the status of supreme infallibility, and has the same virtues and perfections that other Ma’sumeen have. In relation to her birth, the Seal of the Prophets, the Messenger of God, peace be upon him and his family, recieved the following revelation: “إِنَّا أَعْطَينَاكَ الْكَوْتَرَ: We have bestowed upon you abundant blessings.”

In order to understand the spiritual status and virtues of her Holiness, it is enough to reflect upon some of the narrations passed down from the Holy Prophet, may God bless him and his family. For example, “The first person who enters Paradise is Fatimah, whoever pleases Fatimah pleases me, and whoever angers Fatima has angered me.” Or, “Fatima is the dearest and most beloved people to me. After me, their father, Hassan and Hossein are the best people on earth, and their mother is the best women on earth.” Also, “If all goodness is embodied in one person, that person is Fatima! and Fatimah is even greater than that,” Also, “My daughter Fatimah is the best person on earth in terms of nobility, honor and dignity.”

Sayyida Nisaa al-Alamin, meaning the Mistress of the Women of the World, is one of the titles and virtues of Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra, peace be upon her. According to Shia and Sunni sources, this title was given to her by the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family.

Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi recently said in one of his scholarly meetings: Based on hadith and narrations, Amirul Momineen is superior to other imams, and after him, Fatima al-Zahra is the most superior, and after her, Imam Hassan, and then Imam Hussain (peace be upon them).

His Eminence continued: Sayyidah Fatima, peace be upon her, does not have the role of Imamate, but she is Hujjat, and has authority over the people. Imamate means ruling over religion and the world. Fatima al-Zahra is Hujjat over people, and being superior to the Imams from her lineage, she is Hujjat over them as well, based on reliable hadith.
