Shia loyalists walk towards Holy Samarra to commemorate martyrdom of Imam al-Hassan al-Askari
Huge crowds of Shia pilgrims, from various Iraqi provinces, have begun their on-foot journey towards the holy city of Samarra to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon him.
Large processions from Basra, Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah and Baghdad began their walk a few days ago towards the holy shrine of the Infallible Imam al-Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon him, in Samarra, 125 kilometers (78 mi) north of the capital Baghdad.
The Shia Waves correspondent said that “Service processions have set up along the roads to provide the honorable pilgrims with food and cold water and places where they can rest to resume their walk.”
It should be mentioned that the sorrowful martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon him, will be commemorated next Sunday, 8 of Rabi-u-Awwal, amid tight security procedures.
