Large crowds of Shia pilgrims walk towards Holy Samarra to observe martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari
Large crowds of pilgrims from various Iraqi provinces have begun converging on the sacred city of Samarra to honor the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari, peace be upon him, at his holy shrine.
Pilgrims have been setting out on foot for days from provinces such as Basra, Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah, and Baghdad to observe this solemn occasion at the al-Askari Shrine.
Shia Muslims in Iraq and around the world are preparing to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam al-Askari, peace be upon him, on Wednesday, the 8th of Rabi’ al-Awwal.
Shia Waves correspondent reported that “among the walking pilgrims is the ‘Shaheed al-Jumaa Procession’ from Nasiriyah and the ‘Sheikh Saad Procession,’ led by a symbolic coffin, who began their ritualistic march towards Samarra several days ago to participate in commemorating this tragic event.”
The holy city of Samarra is expected to receive millions of pilgrims from various Iraqi provinces, as well as Arab and foreign visitors, who come to observe the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam al-Askari, peace be upon him.
