Shia followers of Ahlulbayt launch Ashura procession in Melbourne, Australia
The Australian ‘Pakenham’ news agency published an article on Saturday in which it described the massive Ashura march in Melbourne.
In the article, viewed by Shia Waves Agency, the Australian news agency said that, “Thousands of Muslims walked united under one banner to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, in the 10th annual Ashura procession.”
It added that, “The Ashura gathering started from Treasury Garden in the CBD with sermons and group prayer before thousands poured onto the roads wearing black and waving flags in the air,” pointing out that, “Organisations and communities from every background took part in the annual procession.”
The Pakenham agency interviewed some of the participants who confirmed that “Ashura is the triumph of justice through the sacrifice of Imam Hussain, his family and companions,” adding that, “Ashura is not just for Shia Muslims but all Muslims and non-Muslims from different backgrounds and languages.”
It concluded that “The procession ended in front of the Parliament House as Victoria Police expected anywhere between 3,000 to 5,000 attendees.”
