The German government announced the establishment of the first committee to combat racism in order to support victims of extremist right-wing groups and racists in the country.
The committee, titled “Combating the Ideas of the Extremist Right-Wing and Racism”, comes after Muslims and Jews were subjected to violent attacks in the German city of Hanau.
Members of the Central Council of Muslims called for the establishment of an anti-Islamophobia committee to address its attempts and manifestations as a pervasive phenomenon at the national level.
The committee includes the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Family Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the head of Immigration and Integration, all are to submit a list of methods of dealing with right-wing extremist groups by October this year.
German Federal Minister of Justice “Christina Lambrecht” said, “The formation of such a committee could be a turning point in German history. The committee was formed to support diverse societies, as well as to protect individuals from hatred and anger, and to support those who are affected by racism or extremist groups.”
