International Day of Lady Ruqayah (peace be upon her)
Today, 5th of Safar, marks the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Ruqayah bint al-Hussein (peace be upon her), also known as the International Day of Ruqayah.
Multiple centers around UK are hosting mourning ceremonies in commemoration of the sorrowful occasion.
The London-based ‘Al-Haraka Al-Hussainiya’ held a two-night program called ‘The Tragedies of Safar’ with the first night dedicated to Lady Ruqayah (peace be upon her) and the second dedicated to Imam Hassan (peace be upon him). The first night ended with a re-enactment of the story of Lady Ruqayah and poetry was recited by Mulla Ali Fadhil.
Meanwhile, in Glasgow Scotland, mourning ceremonies were held in three different centers in commemoration of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein’s daughter (peace be upon her). The International day of Lady Ruqayah was remembered by the young ones through a special ‘kids only’ ceremony, in which children recited poems and eulogies and carried the banners from the Holy Shrines of Imam Hussein and Al-Abbas (peace be upon them).
On an international level, the Imam Shirazi Islamic Center in Montreal, Canada held a mourning ceremony and a ‘Sufra’ in honour of Lady Ruqayah (peace be upon her).
Husseiniyat Ale Yassin also held a mourning ceremony and Sufra on the 1st of September.
In Karbala, Bein al-Haramein hosted a large Sufra in which hundreds participated, particularly children who also witnessed and took part in an re-enactment.
Similarly, in Syria many flocked to the Holy Shrine of Lady Ruqayah (peace be upon her) to do ziyarah and pay their respect to the daughter of Imam Hussein (peace be upon them) on the day of her martyrdom.
