World Food Programme: More than 20 million people in Afghanistan are food insecure

The World Food Programme in Afghanistan has called on the international community to help prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan with financial assistance.
“Afghanistan is on the brink of economic collapse,” said WFP Afghanistan chief Mary-Ellen McGroarty, adding, “We don’t have enough money for 2022 and more than 20 million people in Afghanistan are food insecure.
She hoped to be able to care for 12 million people in January, calling on the international community to help prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan with funding.
McGroarty said the money should be sent in ways that are not available to the Taliban.
