The Iraqi government adopts the 20th of Safar as ‘Iraqi Volunteer Work Day’

The Iraqi Ministry of Justice announced the adoption of the day of Arbaeen (Safar 20) as the Iraqi Volunteer Work Day.
The ministry stated in a statement, “Based on the directives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the 20th of Safar, or the day of Arbaeen, is now the Iraqi Day of Volunteer Work.”
According to the statement, the Chairman of the Standing Committee for Voluntary Work, Raad Khalil Ghaji, confirmed that “the Council of Ministers decided, in its eleventh regular session, with the recommendation of the Ministerial Council for Social Services, regarding the adoption of Arbaeen Day as Iraqi Volunteer Work Day, which is considered a model in embodying volunteer work.”
The statement pointed out that “the ministry had earlier started a number of campaigns to donate blood in coordination with the Ministry of Health, which witnessed a wide turnout from the ministry’s employees and formations in order to consolidate humanitarian goals, and this comes within the framework of the ministry’s contribution to support all aspects of life, including the humanitarian side.”
