Taliban terrorists control the first capital of an Afghan province

The Taliban terrorist movement has captured the first capital of an Afghan province since it launched an attack in conjunction with the last stage of the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country, according to a senior government official.
“I can confirm that the city of Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz state, fell into the hands of the Taliban,” Nimroz state deputy governor Ruh Gul Khairzad said.
The city, located in southwestern Afghanistan near the Iranian border, fell (without a fight), and social media showed videos of militants roaming the streets while being greeted by local residents.
It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the video.
Although the fall of Zaranj is not strategically important, it is a moral blow to the government, which is struggling to defend many state capitals against the Taliban attack.
“The city was under threat for a while, but no one from the central government listened to our calls,” the official added.
The Taliban announced in a tweet earlier that its forces had seized strategic buildings, including administrative and police headquarters.
Fighting in Afghanistan has intensified since May, when foreign forces began the final stages of their withdrawal, which is due to be completed later this month.
