Bahrain’s Prisoners Committee responds to false statements about the Jaw prison incidents
A civil committee in Bahrain published a response to the statement of the National Institution for Human Rights regarding the events of Building 12 and 13 in Jaw Central Prison, after the institution held prisoners responsible for what happened in the two aforementioned wards.
The statement of the Bahrain Prisoners Committee said, “The National Institution for Human Rights published a statement that mislead and lied about everything that was circulated and published on social networking sites of events that took place on Saturday, April 17, 2021, in Buildings 12 and 13 of Jaw Central Prison, and denied everything it had done. The riot forces suffered from brutal attacks, beatings and bloody torture against prisoners. “
The statement continued, “The family of the detainee Saeed Abdul-Imam reported that they contacted and submitted a report to the overseer, and they demanded reassurance about their son, but they did not get a useful response from them, after the spread of news that their detained son Abdul-Imam fell unconscious because of the cruel torture he was subjected to.”
The statement added, “We, the Bahrain Prisoners Committee, confirm the torture of prisoners in Building 12 and 13 in Jaw Central Prison, through what we have received of pictures that prove the heavy presence of riot forces inside the corridors during the attack, as well as deny the accuracy and authenticity of what was published by the National Institution for Human Rights.”
The committee’s statement called on the National Institution for Human Rights to investigate the accuracy of its statements, to be more transparent and to take into account its name related to human rights.
The committee called on “the competent authorities of the Ministry of Interior to check the surveillance cameras in the corridors of Building 13 in the Jaw Central Prison to verify the circumstances of the crime, to open an urgent investigation and to hold accountable all those who carried out torture.”
