Malaysia plans to train 125,000 proficient Quran memorizers by 2050 by expanding access to higher education, technical and vocational training, and modern technology, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced at a Quran memorization graduation ceremony in Malacca.
Speaking at an event celebrating the Ulul Albab programme, Zahid said Malaysia has so far trained approximately 12,500 specialized Quran memorizers. From 2027, students will be able to pursue university studies at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and six universities within the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).
The initiative aims to combine Quranic education with professional skills and emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, robotics and the digital economy. Zahid emphasized that Quran memorization schools should develop students’ scientific, technical and leadership abilities while preserving Islamic values.
The plan forms part of Malaysia’s National Transformation Vision 2050 and seeks to prepare Quran memorizers for careers in strategic industries while strengthening their contribution to society and religious life.
