UN: Nearly 50,000 Women, Girls in Gaza Killed or Permanently Disabled Since War Began

UN Women has reported that more than 38,000 women and girls have been killed and around 11,700 others sustained permanently disabling injuries in Gaza since the war began in October 2023.
The agency said approximately one million women and girls have been displaced, many living in tents or damaged buildings without adequate shelter and essential services. One in four households in Gaza is now headed by a woman, increasing financial and social pressures.
A survey found that 13 of 14 women’s organizations could no longer meet growing needs because of funding shortages. The groups also reported increases in gender-based violence, poverty, psychological distress and child marriage.
UN Women called for full implementation of the ceasefire, respect for international law and increased funding for protection, healthcare, psychological support and humanitarian assistance.
