Muslim Council of Elders Warns Against Extremist Recruitment and Calls for Youth Protection
————————
The Muslim Council of Elders has warned that extremist groups exploit religion to spread hatred and violence, urging governments, families and educational institutions to protect young people from radicalization and recruitment.

In a statement, the council said extremist organizations pose a serious threat to public safety and social stability, undermining efforts to promote peaceful coexistence. It stressed that using religion to justify violence contradicts Islam’s teachings on mercy, peace and the sanctity of human life.

The council called on religious, educational and media institutions, alongside families, to strengthen young people’s awareness of extremist ideologies and recruitment tactics. It also urged the international community to tackle online platforms used to spread hate speech and incitement to violence.

The statement emphasized the need for educational, cultural and intellectual initiatives to address the roots of extremism, promote moderation and dialogue, and foster respect for others and human fraternity.
