PTI Protest March in Pakistan Enters Sixth Day as Supporters Prepare for Swabi Rally

A protest march by supporters of Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party entered its sixth day on Friday, as demonstrators moved through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of a planned gathering in Swabi.
The march is being led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, with participants demanding Imran Khan’s release, an end to what they describe as political persecution, and the release of detained party activists.
After passing through Charsadda, PTI organizers called on supporters to gather at Swabi Interchange on October 11 for a major rally. Party leaders said further plans for the movement would be announced during the gathering.
The federal government has expressed concerns over possible disruption and has deployed security measures around key areas, while PTI maintains that the demonstrations are a peaceful political movement aimed at pressuring authorities to address its demands.
The protests follow months of political tensions surrounding Imran Khan, who has remained imprisoned since 2023 over multiple legal cases that he and his supporters say are politically motivated. The government rejects those allegations and says the legal proceedings are independent.
