Alawite Islamic Council Urges Community Members to Avoid Calls for Fighting on Syrian Coast

The Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and abroad has called on members of the Alawite community to exercise restraint and avoid being drawn into calls for armed confrontation on the Syrian coast.

In a statement, the council urged awareness and wisdom, warning against initiatives that it said could push coastal areas into conflicts that would not serve the interests of local residents. The statement followed a series of security incidents in coastal and central Syrian areas, including shootings that resulted in deaths and injuries among members of the Alawite community.

The council accused unnamed parties and foreign actors with political and ideological agendas of exploiting instability to fuel tensions and impose their influence over the region and its resources. It stressed that areas including Latakia, Tartous, Homs and the Hama countryside belong to their inhabitants, who have the right to determine their future.

The council called for unity, rejecting any actions that could lead to further violence or bloodshed. It emphasized that the future of the region should be shaped through the will of its people while safeguarding security, dignity and political and legal rights.
