Nine Islamic schools across Canada have been placed under heightened security measures after receiving an anonymous email containing threats of violence against Muslims, according to a report by Global News, citing The Canadian Press.

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) said the same threatening message was sent to schools in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec within a 24-hour period. The email, signed by an individual using the name “Citizen Vigilante,” included threats of “slaughter” and expressed a desire for a “Muslim-free Canada.”

The organization said it had increased security measures at its schools, including hiring private security personnel to help protect students and staff. Representatives noted that while Islamophobic messages had been received before, this was the first time MAC-affiliated schools had been directly targeted with such explicit threats.

Several police forces have launched investigations. Authorities in Ontario’s Peel region said they were investigating the incident as a hate-motivated threat and increased patrols around Islamic institutions. Police in London and Waterloo also confirmed investigations, while Ottawa police increased visibility at affected locations but said there was no evidence of an immediate specific threat.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister condemned the threats, stating that every child has the right to attend school safely.

Muslim community representatives said the incidents have heightened fear among students and families and come amid concerns over rising Islamophobia in Canada.
