Muslims in Manchester Call for Security Funding for Mosques After Death Threats

An Islamic association in the city of Manchester has called on the British government to provide urgent funding to enhance security measures in mosques, following the conviction of a man for issuing death threats to worshippers in two of the city’s mosques.

The demand came after Gabriel Law was sentenced to two years in prison for making phone calls that included anti-Islamic language and threats to kill individuals at the “Sunnah” and “Iqra” mosques in Manchester.

According to a report by ITV, the public prosecutor affirmed that death threats and crimes associated with religious hatred are treated seriously by the relevant authorities.

In response, the Association of Muslim Organizations in Manchester has called for strengthened protection for mosques and worshippers, noting that several mosques in the city have been subjected to attacks in recent years amidst concerns over the rise of anti-Muslim hatred.

These demands come at a time when the British Home Office has announced the allocation of up to £40 million to bolster security for mosques, Islamic schools, and community centers for Muslims, through measures that include the installation of surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and the provision of security personnel.

Islamic bodies have urged that security funding must reach institutions facing genuine threats, contributing to the establishment of a safe environment for worshippers and the practice of religious rites.
