Pakistan Announces Killing of 49 Terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan Operations
The Pakistani army announced that 49 terrorists had been killed during a series of separate security and intelligence-based operations carried out in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, as part of the country’s ongoing campaign to combat terrorism and pursue armed groups.
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that security forces and police conducted joint, high-tempo operations based on intelligence, resulting in losses among terrorist networks and the seizure of weapons, explosives, and equipment used to carry out attacks.
It said that 12 terrorists were killed during operations in Bannu, North Waziristan, Orakzai, and Khyber in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Explosives, remote-control devices for improvised explosive devices, as well as weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles were reportedly found in their possession.
In Balochistan, Pakistani forces announced that 37 terrorists were killed during ten intelligence-based operations in Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar, and Panjgur. The forces also seized quantities of weapons, explosive materials, and remote-detonation equipment.
The army affirmed that clearance and combing operations would continue in the targeted areas to track down remaining armed elements and dismantle their networks. It stressed that the security campaign would continue under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework adopted as part of the National Action Plan to combat terrorism.
The new operations come amid a security escalation in Pakistan during August, as authorities had previously announced the killing of dozens of militants in separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Pakistan has experienced an increase in attacks and armed clashes in recent months, particularly in the two provinces bordering Afghanistan and Iran, as security forces intensify intelligence-based operations to pursue armed groups and curb their activities.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, July witnessed a sharp rise in the number of casualties resulting from violence, attacks, and security operations, reflecting the continuing security challenges facing the country despite intensified counterterrorism efforts.
