The West Asia News Agency has described the Arbaeen pilgrimage in Iraq as the largest peaceful religious gathering in the world, highlighting the annual arrival of millions of pilgrims to the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
In a report, the agency stated that the Arbaeen pilgrimage attracts participants from countries around the world and is distinguished by its religious and humanitarian dimensions, with values of solidarity and social cooperation reflected through the free services provided by Husseini processions and volunteer groups along the roads leading to Karbala.
The report noted that the walking pilgrimage route between the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala has witnessed widespread participation this year, while thousands of Husseini service processions continue to provide food, accommodation, medical care, and logistical support to millions of visitors.
It added that the atmosphere surrounding the Arbaeen rituals reflects broad public engagement with the occasion, along with the growing presence of international pilgrims arriving from outside Iraq to participate in the commemoration.
The agency emphasized that the large-scale participation and the voluntary services offered by Iraqi communities remain among the most prominent features of the Arbaeen pilgrimage, creating opportunities for humanitarian and cultural interaction among people from diverse nationalities and backgrounds.
