Nearly 900,000 Pilgrims Enter Iraq Since Beginning of Muharram as Arbaeen Arrivals Continue

Iraq’s Border Ports Authority has announced that nearly 900,000 pilgrims have entered the country since the start of Muharram, as the influx of visitors continues ahead of the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The head of the authority, Lieutenant General Omar al-Waeli, said that Iraqi border crossings recorded the arrival of approximately 900,000 pilgrims since the beginning of the month of Muharram, while around 515,000 visitors have departed during the same period.

He explained that the number of arrivals has increased significantly with the start of the Arbaeen season, noting that since the first day of Safar, border crossings have recorded the entry of nearly 500,000 pilgrims, while about 150,000 have left Iraq.

Al-Waeli added that all border crossings are operating at full capacity around the clock to facilitate entry and departure procedures, reduce waiting times, and manage the continued arrival of international pilgrims traveling to the holy city of Karbala to commemorate Arbaeen.

He confirmed that operations at the border points are being carried out under direct government supervision as part of comprehensive security, service, and organizational plans aimed at accommodating the growing number of visitors and ensuring smooth movement during the large-scale pilgrimage season.
