Arbaeen Service Preparations Intensify in Iraq as Authorities and Holy Shrines Expand Support for Pilgrims

Preparations for the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage have intensified across Iraq, with service tents, government agencies, security forces, and holy shrines launching comprehensive plans to welcome millions of pilgrims expected to visit the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.
In Najaf, service tents have begun operating along pilgrimage routes, providing pilgrims with accommodation, meals, drinking water, medical assistance, and guidance services. The initiatives aim to facilitate the movement of visitors and improve the quality of services during the Arbaeen walk.
Najaf Governorate has also emphasized accelerating the completion of infrastructure projects dedicated to the pilgrimage season, particularly along the northern routes of the province. Meanwhile, the governors of Najaf and Karbala, along with Iraq’s parliamentary Arbaeen committee, reviewed service, development, and security plans to ensure greater readiness for receiving millions of pilgrims.
The Imam Ali Holy Shrine announced the launch of specialized training programs to enhance the preparedness of its service staff ahead of Arbaeen. At the same time, Najaf’s provincial security committee and police command reviewed field coordination plans aimed at improving security, organizing services, and managing the large-scale movement of pilgrims.
The Abbas Holy Shrine in Karbala has announced new projects to expand service infrastructure for Arbaeen pilgrims. The plans include increasing welfare, logistical, and support facilities to better meet the needs of visitors and improve the overall pilgrimage experience.
As part of its preparations, the Abbas Holy Shrine has also established special centers for locating and assisting lost pilgrims along major routes leading to Karbala. Equipped with communication systems and volunteer teams, the centers aim to reunite missing individuals with their families as quickly as possible. The shrine is also preparing additional food distribution centers and has begun providing drinking water to service tents.
In Diwaniyah Province, the local police command has started implementing a special security and service plan for Arbaeen. Security and medical teams have been deployed along major roads to support pilgrim movement, strengthen road safety, provide emergency assistance, and coordinate with Hussaini service tents across the province.
Officials and religious institutions across Iraq say these measures are part of a broader effort to ensure safe, organized, and efficient services for the millions of pilgrims participating in the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
