Iraq Issues Directives to Enhance Services at Al-Sheeb Border Crossing Ahead of Arbaeen Pilgrimage

Iraq’s Supreme Committee for Million-Visitor Events has issued new directives to organize the movement of pilgrims and strengthen services at the Al-Sheeb border crossing in Maysan province ahead of the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
The committee’s head and Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, chaired a specialized meeting at the border crossing attended by security officials, service representatives and relevant authorities to review preparations for receiving foreign pilgrims.
During the meeting, Al-Muhammadawi reviewed plans for managing the arrival of visitors and instructed officials to maximize available resources to ensure smooth entry procedures and effective security and service operations at the crossing, which is expected to witness a significant influx of international pilgrims.
He directed authorities to organize entry through designated lanes and routes to maintain continuous movement around the clock, while implementing thorough security inspections using modern technologies without delaying the processing of pilgrims’ documents.
Al-Muhammadawi also stressed the importance of professionalism and discipline among security personnel in dealing with visitors and completing procedures efficiently.
On the service side, officials agreed to increase supplies of drinking water through water distribution vehicles and emergency reserves, operate ice production facilities to support pilgrims and Hussaini service groups during high temperatures, and ensure stable electricity, backup generators and sufficient fuel supplies for service convoys and transportation vehicles throughout the Arbaeen season.
