Padang to Launch Quran Education Program for Middle School Students
——————————-
The city government of Padang in Indonesia’s West Sumatra is preparing to launch a new Quran education initiative for middle school students and equivalent levels.
The program, known as Tahsin, Tafsir, and Tahfiz, or 3T, aims to improve students’ Quran recitation, understanding, and memorization.
Padang Deputy Mayor Maigus Nasir said the initiative is part of the city’s efforts to strengthen religious education among young people. He said the program is designed to help students continue engaging with the Quran beyond basic reading.
The 3T Program is part of Padang’s flagship Smart Surau initiative and will be coordinated with the Ta’limul Quran lil Aulad curriculum and the Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Wustha system already implemented in several areas of the city.
The tahsin component focuses on correct Quran recitation according to tajweed rules, while tafsir lessons will help students understand the meaning of chapters in Juz 30. The tahfiz component aims to encourage continuous memorization of the Quran.
The program is scheduled to begin simultaneously on July 16, 2026. Activities will be held every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night at selected mosques and musallas in Padang.
Officials hope the initiative will help raise a generation with strong religious character, good morals, and a closer connection to the Holy Quran.
