Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Says Sectarian Targeting, Mosque Demolitions Are “National Shame”

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, a prominent Islamic organization in India, has expressed concern over demolition drives targeting mosques and residential settlements in several states, describing sectarian targeting and mosque demolitions as a “national shame.”
The organization said the demolitions were “politically motivated” and carried out without due legal process. It alleged that operations in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and New Delhi have disproportionately affected a specific community.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind also raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, senior leaders of the organization highlighted what they described as growing corruption and emerging threats to India’s democratic institutions.
The delegation reported several cases in which due process was allegedly not followed, unilateral decisions were taken, and religious structures built on privately owned land were reportedly demolished.
It also expressed serious concern over what it described as the selective and discriminatory targeting of Islamic religious sites, including mosques and shrines, while places of worship belonging to other communities in the same areas remained untouched despite facing similar legal issues.
