UK Poll Finds Majority Believe Muslims Face Bias, Support Action to Combat Discrimination

A new opinion poll in the United Kingdom has found that a majority of Britons believe Muslims face bias and discrimination, while many support government action to address the issue and strengthen equality across society.
The survey, commissioned by the Muslim Council of Britain and the research group British Future, included 2,000 participants. According to the findings, 63 percent of respondents said Muslims in the UK face prejudice, while 61 percent supported practical government measures to reduce discrimination against them.
The results come amid growing political debate over equality laws and anti-discrimination policies in Britain. Recent proposals by some political parties to amend or remove parts of equality legislation have sparked controversy, particularly measures requiring public institutions to consider equality principles and prevent discrimination in their policies and activities.
A separate survey of 1,000 Muslims in the UK also highlighted ongoing concerns over personal safety and social discrimination. A significant number of Muslim women reported feeling unsafe due to rising anti-Muslim rhetoric and incidents in recent years.
Observers say the findings reflect broad public support for tackling Islamophobia and strengthening legal and social protections for Muslims, despite continuing political disagreement over the best policies to achieve this.
Rights groups and civil society organizations stress that combating discrimination and promoting equality for all citizens remain essential to preserving social cohesion, pluralism, and mutual respect in the United Kingdom.
