At least 15 Infants Die in Fire at Islamabad Hospital

The Pakistani Geo TV channel reported on Wednesday that at least 15 infants died in a fire that broke out at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in the capital, Islamabad, due to a malfunction in the air conditioning systems.
The channel stated that the fire erupted in the nursery of the hospital’s gynecology and obstetrics department, amid cooling operations being conducted after the fire was extinguished in the medical facility, according to rescue officials.
According to institute officials, the neonatal department housed 16 infants at the time of the incident, and only one was rescued.
Rescue sources mentioned that the fire started after a compressor explosion of an air conditioning unit within the department in the federal capital’s hospital.
Rescue officials reported that the fire was contained and extinguished, and the specialized teams are currently conducting cooling operations at the site.
