Shia Muslims in Iraq, Iran, and across the world commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him), with mourning gatherings, religious lectures, and processions.

More details in the following report:

Shia Muslims in Iraq and several countries around the world have commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir (peace be upon him), the fifth Imam of Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), which falls on the seventh of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Mourning gatherings were held in Hussainiyas, Islamic centres, religious institutions, and holy shrines in honour of the Imam.

According to the Shia Waves Agency, mourners expressed their condolences to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family), Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), their Immaculate Lineage of Imams (peace be upon them), especially Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his honourable reappearance).

Participants in the commemorations said Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) played a decisive role in strengthening Islamic sciences and establishing the intellectual foundations of the school of Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them). They stressed that his teachings produced generations of jurists, narrators, and scholars at a time when the Umayyad authorities sought to distort the message of Islam.

In the holy city of Qom, the office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi offered condolences to Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and to all believing men and women. The office also held mourning ceremonies in Persian and Arabic, attended by scholars, seminary teachers, students, and faithful mourners.

In Mashhad, the holy shrine of Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) was draped in black to mark the sorrowful occasion. Black banners were placed across the courtyards, entrances, and halls of the shrine, while servants of the holy shrine wore mourning attire.

In Samarra, a symbolic funeral procession was held at the holy al-Askari Shrine with the participation of religious figures, officials, shrine servants, residents, and visitors from different Iraqi provinces.
