The health crisis in Afghanistan continues to worsen, with its impact clearly seen in the alarming rise in child malnutrition.

The lack of healthcare resources, widespread poverty, and weak health infrastructure have resulted in many children suffering from severe malnutrition. Despite efforts, Afghanistan’s health system remains unable to meet the growing demand for essential services, leaving many areas without access to basic healthcare.

According to reports from Hasht-e-Subh Daily newspaper, citing UNICEF, the organization has announced a program in 2026 to treat 1.3 million children suffering from severe malnutrition across Afghanistan. The initiative will be supported by the Asian Development Bank and aims to address the increasing crisis among Afghan children.

Previous warnings from the United Nations highlighted that over three million children in Afghanistan are at risk of severe malnutrition, with the rate of cases increasing compared to last year. Last year, approximately 610,000 children received treatment, but the ongoing deterioration of health conditions has exacerbated the crisis.
