Grand Ayatullah Shirazi: Self-Accountability Is Key to Personal Growth During Ramadan

Grand Ayatollah Sayid Sadiq al-Hussaini al-Shirazi has emphasized that the holy month of Ramadan offers an important opportunity for believers to transform their character and strengthen their spiritual lives.
In remarks addressing the significance of Ramadan, the senior Shia cleric said the path toward moral and spiritual improvement remains open to everyone and does not stop at a particular level. He noted that individuals can continually strive for higher degrees of righteousness and piety.
Shirazi stressed that self-accountability is among the most effective and accessible ways to achieve personal success and spiritual progress. He explained that individuals should regularly evaluate their actions, behavior and words in order to correct mistakes and improve their conduct.
According to the cleric, Ramadan provides renewed opportunities for positive change for both scholars and the wider public. He described the month as a period dedicated to self-development and personal reform, encouraging believers to use the time to cultivate discipline and moral awareness.
He also highlighted the importance of reviewing one’s daily conduct, particularly in relationships with family members, friends and colleagues. By reflecting on how they spend their time and interact with others, he said, individuals can increase good deeds and reduce harmful behavior.
Shirazi added that acts of worship commonly observed during Ramadan—such as prayers, supplications and religious visits—serve as essential tools for strengthening faith and deepening a believer’s relationship with God.
He urged believers to make full use of the spiritual significance of Ramadan by promoting values such as cooperation, compassion and kindness toward others.
