Afghan Media Support Organization Condemns Suspension of Rah-e-Farda TV, Calls for Immediate Reopening

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has condemned the suspension of broadcasts by Rah‑e‑Farda TV, urging authorities to allow the media outlet to resume operations and ensure protections for press freedom in the country.
In a statement cited by Anadolu Agency, AMSO said the decision to halt the channel’s activities undermines freedom of expression and restricts citizens’ right to access information. The organization called for conditions that would enable the station to continue operating and appealed to international human rights institutions to support independent media in Afghanistan.
The suspension of Rah-e-Farda TV was reported on March 1, when Taliban authorities halted the channel’s radio and television broadcasts in Kabul. According to media reports, the move was linked to comments by Afghan political figure Mohammad Mohaqiq, the founder of the station, regarding recent tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Press freedom groups have raised concerns that the closure reflects growing pressure on independent media in Afghanistan. The Committee to Protect Journalists also called on the Taliban to return control of the station to its owners and end actions that threaten independent journalism.
Media experts warn that shutting down outlets weakens transparency and accountability in society and limits the public’s access to reliable information, particularly at a time when Afghanistan’s media sector is already facing significant restrictions and economic challenges.
